Florida's Workforce e-Learning Forum:  Meeting 21st Century Challenges was held at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando Thursday and
Friday, February 2nd and 3rd. Representatives from 16 School Districts, 11 Technical Centers and 17 Community Colleges met and heard
from our keynote speaker Dr. Xiangen Hu on the “Trends and Future Directions of e-Learning”. Dr. Hu, Co-Manager of the Workforce ADL Co-Laboratory, provided a brief overview of learning technologies and how state of the art Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) and simulations are currently being used by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Dr. Hu predicts that emerging e-learning standards and technological advances will significantly enhance the ability of educators to leverage
or produce quality instructional content (Learning Objects) in digital repositories, thereby reducing course development time and cost.

Three interactive discussion sessions were conducted over the two day meeting in which participants identified common needs and challenges, ideas for collaboration and knowledge sharing that could best leverage their collective strengths, and formulated a joint strategy
for the extension of e-learning to the areas of Adult Education and Career/Technical Education. Participants provided action plan recommendations and milestones for achieving short and long term goals. These goals and objectives will be compiled and provided to the group for review or implementation in the coming weeks.
