Online Registration Task Force Report (March 2010)
The 2009 Legislature established the Florida Distance Learning Consortium and provided it with a series of responsibilities and specific study assignments. Among those was a specific assignment to continue the work of the Florida Distance Learning Task Force in the development of a plan for an online registration process for students utilizing the Florida Higher Education Online Catalog providing a report back to the legislature in March 2010.
Open Access Textbook Task Force Report (March 2010)
In response to the requirements of 1004.091(2) F.S., a 23 member task force with diverse representation from Florida universities and colleges developed and submitted a report on March 1, 2010 that includes a plan to promote open access textbooks in Florida as a method for reducing textbook costs. Two statewide surveys of faculty and student government leaders were conducted to inform the report. In addition, research was conducted into the work of other organizations and Orange Grove Texts Plus, an open access textbook initiative of The Orange Grove digital repository and the University Press of Florida. The report includes a brief history of textbook costs and open textbooks and a plan to implement open textbooks in Florida that leverages existing resources. Eleven recommendations were identified to promote and sustain open access textbook use in Florida.
Distance Learning Task Force (March 2009)
The Florida Distance Learning Task Force was created through HB 7105 by the 2008 Legislature. The nine-member Task Force was appointed by the Chancellors of the State University System and the Florida College System with specific legislative assignments. These assignments reflected several policy goals which provided a foundation for the work of the Task Force. These goals included:
1) facilitating maximum affordable access for students to complete degrees and transfer credits;
2) achieving increased cost-effectiveness in the development and delivery of undergraduate distance learning courses and degree programs;
3) improving instructional and faculty effectiveness;
4) advancing technology innovations; and
5) providing accountability for funding and tasks assigned to the Florida Distance Learning Consortium.
